The Republic of Korea is a highly-developed country, known as a global leader in industrial and technological sectors, including automobiles and robots. As a product of the Cold War, Korea has been split into two sovereign states since 1948. It has technically been locked in a state of war with North Korea since 1950, although the Korean War itself only lasted until 1953. The armistice in 1953 created the Koream Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), separating the two countries, but no peace treaty was ever signed. In 2018, the leaders of both countries met at the DMZ and agreed to work towards a treaty to formally end the war.
